What is PLA?
PLA (Polylactide) is a plastic made primarily from renewable resources such as corn starch or sugarcane. Due to its easy processing and excellent print quality, PLA is the most commonly used material for decorative 3D prints.
Especially for historical busts, sculptures, or art objects, PLA impresses with its fine details and high surface quality.

What is PETG?
PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol) is a particularly robust plastic. It combines high stability with good weather and moisture resistance. PETG is often used for functional or heavily used 3D prints.
Busts can also be made from PETG – especially if they are to be placed outdoors or in demanding environments.

Why we predominantly use PLA for our busts
For high-quality busts, aesthetics and detail accuracy are paramount. Facial features, hair, clothing, and the finest ornaments should be reproduced as faithfully as possible. This is precisely where PLA plays to its greatest strengths.
The high printing precision results in particularly sharp contours and a smooth surface, which impressively brings out the character of historical figures.
For busts that are exclusively displayed indoors – for example, in the living room, office, study, or on a shelf – PLA is the ideal choice.
When is PETG recommended?
PETG is the better choice if a bust is exposed to special stresses, for example:
- on covered terraces
- in conservatories
- in damp rooms
- in public institutions
- with frequent transport
- for exhibitions with heavy use
Due to its higher resistance, PETG remains dimensionally stable even under more demanding conditions.
Sustainability
PLA is predominantly made from renewable resources and is considered a more environmentally friendly alternative to many conventional plastics. Under industrial composting conditions, PLA can be biodegraded, but typically not in home compost.
PETG is petroleum-based, but it excels in its high durability and good recyclability. Thanks to its robustness, products made from PETG can often be used for many years.

Both PLA and PETG are excellent materials for 3D printing – however, they meet different requirements.
If you are looking for a high-quality bust with the finest details, sharp contours, and an elegant surface, PLA is the best choice. That's why we produce the majority of our decorative busts from this material.
However, if the bust needs to be particularly robust, durable, or suitable for more demanding environments, PETG offers clear advantages.
